Pádis avagy barangolás a Bihar hegység szívében / Exploring the Apuseni Natural Parc

Nemrégiben volt szerencsém felfedezni egy számomra teljesen ismeretlen területet: a Bihar hegységet a Nyugati kárpátokban, azon belül is Pádist és környékét. Úgy alakult hogy egyik régi haver szólt hogy ideje lenne már együtt túrázni, aztán mégsem tudott eljönni: ennek ellenére kapva kaptam az alkalmon hogy felfedezzem én is amit anno Czárán Gyula a XIX. század vége felé. Az ő nevéhez fűződik az az úttörő, feltáró és turistaút építő munka ami nélkül ma szegényebb lenne Erdély.

I've had the pleasure to travel in the mid of August again to an interesting area in the heart of Transylvania. The western Carpathian's are home of one of the most amazing natural reservation. Grasslands, gorges, subterranean caves were explore and marked first time in the late 19th century by Czárán Gyula. A Csodavár (Cetățile Ponorului) Európa legnagyobb exo-karsztjelensége: három, egymástól egy kisebb nyereggel, illetve alagúttal elválasztott 100-300 m átmérőjű és 100-200 m mélységű dolina. Ezek közül kettő látogatható, a harmadik csak alacsonyabb vízállásnál. A legnagyobb dolinában egy 73 m magas barlangnyílás található. (forrás Wiki)

Kolozsvári magyar napok / Hungarian days in Cluj

Volt szerencsém részt-venni a 4. Kolozsvári magyar napokon mint egyszerű halandó, vagy ahogy én mondanám: kihasználtam az alkalmat. Mert ugyebár szerintem ez a fontos: kihasználni dolgokat az életben, nem csak beszélni róla, véleményt mondani olyan dolgokról amiről halvány lilánk sincs. Hanem megélni, átélni, és utána nyilatkozni. Talán jobb világ lenne, vagy csak szimplán én vagyok túl utópisztikus.

I've had the possiblity to take part last week on the Hungarian cultural days in Cluj (my all time favorite city). I've just used my time to spend it wisely. At least I think like this. Why? Simply because you need to use your time - you have one life, with a very limited lifetime span. Seeing, exploring, making mistakes it is just all part of the big plan. You need to take part, live it and afterwards form an impression. Why so? Cause in my experience that is what if differentiates us from the rest. And unfortunately today, culture is not the main interest of the people. These days thought me that it is more than important...this world would be a better place if more people would think the same. Of course, I tend to have utopian ideas.

És talán akkor a programfüzettel nyitnék. Mert ugye ez foglalja legjobban össze hogy mit történt 7 napon keresztül Kolozsváron. Kicsit a kilencvenes évek piros-sárga-kék padjai után mintha az Európai szellem-multikultiság átrepült volna a kincses városon IS. Mert hiába CSAK a negyedik a sorban, és hiába volt egy időpontban például a Partiumi magyar napokkal, én is (mint sok tízezer ember) ezt választottam. És utólag kiderült: nem ok nélkül.

Lets start perhaps with the cultural days programs (please find it in the above link, unfortunately only in Hungarian). It seems for me that after a very transitional period (90' and 00') after the communist regime you see some huge improvements in Transylvania. Or more precisely in Cluj. And I am not talking about the international companies who seek the brightest for a lower income. Nope. I am talking about European ideas/multiculturalism and people who are appreciating art/music/and culture in general. 

Az alábbiakban kimásoltam a programfüzet előszavát. Szerintem érdemes minden erdélyi magyarnak végigolvasnia, és hacsak pár pillanatig is: de elgondolkodnia rajta.

The first page got my attention in the guide. I think if you think yourself as a Hungarian (in Transylvania  or in Honolulu), you should read it, and give a couple of thoughts. It is about the Eyak people who are now extinct. At the end of the XIX century they were only 117 people speaking the Eyak language. In 2008, the last native was found to be dead. And with his death, the Eyak language and culture was over. Thanks to our globalized world. 

Hungarians, and Hungarian minorities are a bit more lucky in this sense. But not too much. In the last 1000 years, thanks to many miracles, we're still here. But for how long?  As long as there is a community, there is language, there is culture, and there are things which you would consider. Right? I mean these 1.5 millions here in Transylvania is nothing compared to Earth's population which is now above 7 billion. On the long term this 7 billion people are unsustainable. Perhaps for another 100 years or so.

So this event was a truly colorful paint job on our grey everyday' life!

Us and the Eyaks

Csak egy rövid programajánlót írok amiken részt vettem és reklámozni szeretném annak aki jövőre betervezné a kolozsvári magyar napokat a határidőnaplójába:

• városnéző történeti-történelmi séta: a főtér és környéke.
• Thorma János művei és pályatársai (kiállítás) - Nagybányainak kötelező
• Kolozsvár vonzáskörében - fotókiállítás a Magyar Konzul épületében
• Orgonatúra - farkas utcai ref. templomban és a Szent Mihály templomban
• A vívó világverseny kulisszatitkai - sportbeszélgetés Pap Jánossal 
• Bórkóstoló
• Koncertek: Csík zenekar (!), Zorán (!), Demjén, Tankcsapda (?wtf)
• partik a volt Continentál szállóban (azaz New York) - igazi autentikus romkocsmás feeling
• István a király rockopera - kb. 40-50 ezer emberrel
• kerekasztal beszélgetések (Igen, tessék mozgalom stb.)

és folytathatnám, de nincs minek. ezt meg kell élni. pont.

So, even though this festival is for Hungarians, I have heard/seen Romanians or even tourist on the streets of Cluj. Why? Because music can beat language borders. There were concerts, and the important thing it is that not mainstream ones: classical, rock, indie, etc. Talks, workshops, sporting events, art exhibitions, traditional hungarian food, parties in one of the most iconic places in Cluj: the New York Grand Hotel. Which was sold directly after the festival for 5 million euros. I would have bought it for even 10.

So I advise you: next year be there!

Tandem siklóernyőzés / Tandem paragliding

A félszigeten volt alkalmam kipróbálni egy újabb csodás sportot. A siklóernyőzést. Annyira wauuu! hogy ezt nem lehet szavakkal vagy mondatokkal leírni.

During the felsziget festival I've had the chance to do a tandem paragliding. So one more thing off my bucket list. It is so awesome, that I will try to get later a license.

Blogolás újrakezd(és) / Bloggin' re-loaded

Most akkor eltelt megint egy-másfél év komolyabb irományok nélkül. Lehet meguntam, lehet sokat kellett volna írnom (túlírnom), lehet túlságosan is el voltam foglalva, vagy éppen nem. Nem ez a lényeg. Hanem hogy tapadjon a bélyeg...

So it's been a while. I've checked my last blog entry: it was one year ago. It's possible that I was bored, had too much or too less to do, or simply was unable to write. Writing down the things what was in my head: it is called creation. Creation is what matters after all. Isn't that right?

Szóval utóbbi egy évben kalandos életutam volt, de ezzel egy másik bejegyzés fog foglalkozni, körbejártam pár helyet, találkoztam pár emberszabásúval, és lett egy-két emlékem is ezzel kapcsolatban. Köszönet nekik a sok kaucsszörfingelésért meg hogy elviseltek :)

So back to me. I've had an interesting lifetime journey in the last year or so. I think it happened so much, that some people experience this in a whole lifetime. Lets call it A chapter. But I will write about this perhaps later. I've seen a couple of places, met a lot of people, and these all gave some memories. And when I say some, I refer to as a looooot. Thanks to my friends for their couches and their patience! 

S amit talán megtanultam, vagy megtanított a nagybetűs Élet, hogy semmi sem örök. És bármikor vége lehet bárminek. Vetítsd ezt ki a saját kicsi életedre vagy a Római birodalomra. Egyre megy.

Ámbár, ami megint csak megmaradt az, hogy a legjobb dolgok ingyen vannak az életben. Teljesen bérmentve ebben az anyagiassá vált globalizációtól sem mentes világunkban.

So, one of the things what I realized is that nothing lasts forever: not our life, not somebody's life, not love, not happiness, and sometimes the best things in life takes a while. And simply you need patience, which I don't have... But I am still in the learning phase... On the other hand, the best things in life are for free. Right? Think about it. 

És akkor köszönet hogy egy nagyon kedves ismerősömnek IS, aki arra ösztökélt hogy újrakezdjem a blogolást. Merthogy az jó: kiírni magunkból dolgokat. És most látom hogy annak ellenére hogy nem volt nagy marketingje az oldalamnak, 5000 kattintásban volt része. És már a kedvenc matektanárom is azzal kezelt le velem, hogy olvassa az oldalt. Szóval akkor mégiscsak a kötelezve vagyok... nemde?

Legyen ez az augusztus huszadika jubileum. Vagy akármi, mindenki döntse el saját maga...

So, big thanks to a friend who convinced me that is worth to continue blogging. Although it is a lot of time and effort sometimes, many people like it. And even though I did not advertise it, and wrote on it since quite some time, 5000 hits were recorded. Not bad, right? Even my all time favorite high school math teacher told me that he follows me. So in the end it is a must that I continue... Right?

HA időm engedi, a jövőben beszámolok pár témáról részletesebben, úgymint:
- munkakeresés az űrszektorban (szerintem lassan már könyvet tudnék írni róla)
- kalandok és túrázások (itthon, és máshol)
- arcok és emberek
- fotóblogolás
- könyvek amik megfognak-megfogtak
- na meg akkor legyenek magyar és angol nyelvű kettős bejegyzések.

IF I can, and will try to do my best to achieve it, I have a couple of ideas which I can talk about in on my blog:
- finding a job in the European space sector or finding a job generally (I can compose a book already :) )
- some hikes and trails home and abroad
- friends and people
- photobloggin'
- books/movies which gave me something...
- and I prefer to use both my English and Hungarian language skills -> an old idea of mine...

New story out: This time the Swiss one

I had been never to Switzerland before. So I did not understand why Swiss people are so proud of their small, little, tiny country. People think that it is the land of expensive watches, banks and tasty chocolates. But this is only the tip of the iceberg.

As one of my Australian colleagues said: “your life savings will disappear in a very short time there”. That is how expensive the place is, even for Australians. But beyond this, there are thousands of mountains to climb, hundreds of ski resorts to try and four different languages to speak. Yes indeed, Switzerland comprises three main linguistic and cultural regions: German, French, and Italian, to which the Romansh-speaking valleys are added.

I had mostly explored the capital, Bern: the place where Einstein did his research about his relativity theory, a place which does not really give the impression of a busy, industrial capital. It simply is not, but is rather a cute touristic and historical place. An even better description of the Swiss capital is: a fairytale. You can even see bears which can be found right in the city center, they are the mascots of the capital.

During my visit I had the opportunity to taste the culinary side of la Suisse. One of the tastiest things which I ever tried was the cheese fondue. In simple words it is melted cheese served in a communal pot over a spirit lamp, and eaten by dipping long-stemmed forks with bread into the cheese. Yummy. And they even have beers: not as good maybe as the Czech or Belgian one, but still beers. And the bakeries, oh my goodness, the most delicious bread and croissants! Another thing which I observed was that the food really tastes food: they are trying to import as few products as possible so everything is locally grown or made, that’s why everything is so fresh.

So let’s get on a train and have a ride back to the Alps: simply amazing. I had the opportunity to do sleighing down from 2200m altitude, Europe's longest sledge run. It was fifty minutes of pure fun (and snow in my faceJ). It also worth mentioning the various sky resorts across the country: it is normal to bump into people on the train station wearing as an accessory a snowboard or skies. During summer people are doing more biking and mountaineering, but hey, nobody is perfect.

Generally speaking people are kind and very polite, usually speaking several languages. Never been in a country where they inform the passengers in three different languages, which also gives the unique multicultural aspect of this region of Europe. Oh, and I realized that the country is so clean that they are daily cleaning the public phones at the station - seemed a bit ridiculous to me.

You simply have the feeling that everything works like a Swiss watch, and everybody knows his job. Trains are running on time even in heavy snowfall. People are smiling, or at least I had the feeling that their life is happy. Still, even today, we have a good example to follow on how cultural aspects are treated, and how things are being done, in Switzerland.
